You typically get three types of facial masks: cream, gel and clay masks. A facial mask should ideally be used once a week when your skin needs a more visible change. Never underestimate the power of a facial mask!
Gel masks: These masks are mainly used to hydrate and soothe your skin. Gel masks are useful when your skin is showing fine lines on the surface. These masks usually contain soothing ingredients that are beneficial to red, inflamed or sensitive skin. Gel masks can be used as often as you like and you can apply it close to your eyes and lips.
Cream masks: These masks are designed for dry, mature or stressed out skin. These masks typically contain oils and richer ingredients. Blemish prone skin should avoid cream masks until you have cleared your pores with a clay mask. Your skin will feel more supple and firm after using a cream mask. You can also leave your cream mask on while having a shower, because the steam of the shower will lock the moisture in. Like the gel masks, cream masks can also be used on your eyes and lips.
Clay masks: Clay masks draw oil, toxins and moisture out of the skin. You use a clay mask when your face needs deep cleansing. Clay masks should be kept away from your eyes and lips. A clay mask should be removed with a warm damp washcloth. It is recommended to use a clay mask in the evening only, once a week if you have an oily combination skin you may go up to twice a week if you have an oily to acne prone skin. A clay mask assists your skin to produce less oil.
