Honey is just amazing: it is an antioxidant, antibacterial (it is an acid with a pH around 4, so it kills bacteria), antimicrobial, and has high osmolarity (which mean it can draw water from things it is added to).
Records going back to 50 BC cite it as a topical treatment for sunburn and wounds.
This is why it makes a great face mask. Rub a teaspoon or two of honey on your face, leave for then minutes and then wash away. The honey cleanses, and its drying properties are an aid against oiliness, pimples and even acne and some wounds. Yet it is moisturising, soaking into your skin, nurturing ageing skin.
